The color is reddish-brown, with the eyes and teeth highlighted in gold.
Shishi heads are used in the traditional Japanese Shishimai dance performance during New Year. Their mouths are designed to open so they can 'bite' people's heads as they dance and walk through the streets, a gesture believed to bring good fortune.
The item has a crack on its right cheek (photo number 5). The crack does not affect the jaw’s functionality. It also shows minor chips and scratches due to deterioration over time. The mouth opens and closes smoothly.
